Land and sea together. These are the two dimensions that came together in the Giro dei Venti, the amateur event with about 80 athletes divided into 18 crews who competed between Salento and Corfu during three cycling stages and two crossings between Salento and Greek coasts from 27th June to July 1st.
A competition where the teams alternated between bikes and sailing boats. The first cycling stage was Santa Maria di Leuca - Otranto - Santa Maria di Leuca, which was followed the day after by the sailing Santa Maria di Leuca-Corfù. Then the beauties of the Greek island were discovered with the cycling stage of Corfu.
Finally the return sailing from Corfu to Santa Maria di Leuca and on the last day the third cycling stage: Santa Maria di Leuca - Gallipoli - Santa Maria di Leuca, which counted with the presence of Letizia Paternoster, of the TREK Segafredo team, medal 'Gold at the Elimination Track World Championships in Roubaix (FRA) in 2021, which used a TREK Emonda bike with Pirelli P Zero Race tyres. Five days of exciting races, which recorded the final victory of the Castrignano crew made up of cyclists Andrea Ragusa and Gregori Dimitri and sailors Ines Montefusco and Massimiliano Rella. Cycling and sailing together to promote sport in a broad sense, as a tool for psychophysical well-being, as well as narrating the beauties and peculiarities of the Apulian towns and enchanting Corfu. Two sports to which Pirelli is particularly linked: cycling, for the wide range of tyres from Race to Urban, passing through traditional or electric mountain bikes; and sailing, where the company with the long P is present in the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli America's Cup team. And, of course, with attention to sustainability: from the promotion of zero-emission mobility (cycling and sailing) through the beauty of the area, up to the healthy practice of sport. With the passion for competition at the center, which has always been in Pirelli's DNA.
